Dorothy Alice Waters, 84, of Springfield, formerly of Waverly died Friday, December 15, 2006, at St. John's Hospice in Springfield. She was born in Roodhouse, September 9, 1922, the daughter of George R. and Myrtle Cummins Hobbs. She married Byron E. Waters, September 9, 1940. He preceded her in death in 2001. She is survived by two sons, C. Edwin (companion, Dixie Mowen) Waters of Clayton, and Nyle G. (wife, Donna) of Tallula, one daughter, Karen D. Waters of Springfield; four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by a half-sister, Eberta Lawson. She retired from Waverly Unit School District 6 in 1981 as head cook. She was a member of the Waverly Baptist Church, and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star # 453 of Palmyra, serving as Worthy Matron in 1966. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM , Monday, December 18, at Neece-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Waverly with Rev. Wayne Meyer officiating. An Eastern Star service will precede the funeral service. Burial will be at Murrayville Cemetery. Family will meet friends from noon until service time. Memorials may be directed to the Waverly Rescue Squad.
